Steve Wynn in many apects can be accurately referred to as the second coming of Bugsy Segal. Like Bugsy he was not the first to build in Vegas, but it is his creations that people remember best. He is the founder of the Vegas "mega-resorts". The Bellagio, Treasure Island, and the Mirage are among the works of his imagination. These were grand, shattering venues that redefined what Las Vegas was, and set the trend for Vegas' next building boom.

There is a price to pay for being a visionary. You are consistently held to a higher standard, and judged by how you manage to surpass your own genius. This is the challenge that Wynn faced when he erected the Wynn Las Vegas Hotel and Casino.

Opened in the spring of 2006, Wynn Las Vegas was highly anticipated simply because of the name that was attached to it. Steve Wynn's last hotels had hit the town like nuclear bombs, this one was more like dropping a sparkler on the strip.

This hotel has nothing to do with the fact that it is not a horrible place, in fact it is rather pleasant. The rooms are larger than the average Vegas Casino, approximately 640 square feet. In other words, those of us who lived in small apartments after college will feel themselves more than comfortable in a Wynn room. The suites are spectacular and are everything one could expect from a Steve Wynn product.

Those who are in Vegas to gamble will find the 111,000-square-foot casino a sort of gamblers' nirvana. Every game that one would expect to find is here, along with a few that are named for Steve Wynn himself (Wynn Megabucks, Wynn 7, Wynn Cash for Life, Wynn Monte Carlo). Poker players will find the 26 table poker room one of the best in the city. Players can enjoy Holdem, Omaha, and a mixed bag of other popular games.

A guest cannot throw a poker chip in this place without hitting a restaurant. There are eateries to satisfy every taste and budget, as well as a pair of fantastic nightclubs (Lure, and Tryst).

The Wynn is first class all the way, from the mountain that adorns the exterior of this establishment, to the golf course that is on the grounds. The only reason this hotel fizzles is that it is exactly up to the standards that were set by Wynn himself. It does not exceed them. We expect more of Mr. Wynn and maybe it puts the man in a no win situation. We as the patrons are the big winners here, he may not get the critical acclaim he deserves for this hotel, but guests will reap the benefits of staying at a World Class resort that is second to none in service and amenities.
